Trip to NYC

A couple of weekends ago, Peter, Henry, and I were able to fly up to New York to visit some friends.  I flew up a few days early to spend time with my dear friend, Stacey, with whom I shared an office the last two years of school in NC.  She was my trusted confidant, expert planner, teammate, listener, cheerleader, and referee (literally) during those two years.  I don't know what I would have done without her love and support, especially last year during my pregnancy.  I was able to see her life in Harrison, NY and we were able to catch up on the last few months since I had seen her.  She's been recently engaged and I got to see her gorgeous ring in person!  :)
That big dog is Stacey's boxer named Bodie.  Henry didn't know what to think of him at first, but slowly warmed up to him after a few hours.  I'm starting to realize how much Henry LOVES dogs...and I think a dog is in our near future.  :)

After my visit with Stacey and her fiance, I took the train into the city and met Peter at Grand Central Station.  This was my first time in NYC and it was definitely shocking as we pulled into the station. I was juggling Henry, a carseat, stroller, suitcase, and all of our jackets.  We totally thought we could handle taking the subway to our friend's house...needless to say, we probably looked ridiculous and I'm sure I saw people shaking their heads as we managed our way towards our desination.  2 subways, many stairs, and lots of opening and collapsing the stroller later...we arrived at Justin and Kristy Kish's apartment.  :)

Justin and Kristy were 2 of our closer friends during our time at Duke.  They both went to Taylor and we were able to reconnect during our 2 years in Durham.  We lived in the same apartment complex (within walking distance) and we spent many evenings hanging out with the Kish's.  They moved to NYC after graduating and have been asking us to visit ever since.  We FINALLY made it and were able to see what their life is like in the big city.

For those of you who know Peter, you know that he loves Jimmy Fallon.  He would say that Jimmy got him through business school - through his comic relief and constant evening shows.  Whenever someone stops by, he is bound to force them to watch a Jimmy clip of one of his recent Late Nights.  Jimmy's show tapes in NYC and Kristy was able to get us tickets for his Friday night taping.  Peter was like a kid in the candy shop as the time of the show approached.  It was such a great experience to see his show in person and what goes on behind the scenes. Peter got to give him a high-five at the end (while leaning over probably 5 people).

We also got to see the 911 Memorial, Wall Street, Times Square, Central Park, and some other memorable locations.  Henry was a trooper through it all, even with babysitters...although he DID come back with quite a cold (sorry little man...probably shouldn't have taken you on that subway.  Chalk it up to strengthening your immune system).  All in all, it was a great trip - we laughed more than we had in awhile - and it was great to spend time with the Kish's (and even another Duke friend, Kevin Meagher, who was in town on business.  :)  Thank you guys for opening up your home and showing us the city...we miss you already!

We were SO those people in Times Square...
