From dad...

Heather,

I sit here amazed as I think about you turning 30 today and having a baby boy in just a week.  I can only think about how great these years have been watching you grow from a newborn to a woman, wife and now, mother-to-be.  I still remember those first few minutes after you were born.  Your mom had been in labor for 24 hours or so (I hope it's better for you!) and right after you were born, they put you on mom's belly and you promptly pee'd all over her.  You must have been holding it for quite awhile.  You were such a beautiful baby with all of that dark hair.  Your mom and I were only 23 and 24 at the time and we didn't have a clue about raising kids.  But you were so easy, just what we needed for our first child (things changed a bit when Holly was born).

As your dad, I couldn't be happier or more proud of who you are as my daughter, a wife to Peter and now as a mom to this little boy.  I love our calls and texts and spending time with you and Peter.  You are so loving and giving and have been such an encouragement to me.

Heather, you are going to be an amazing mother and your mom and I are still processing the idea of being grandparents.  I'm not as experienced with boys but I am looking forward to playing some golf with my grandson.

Have a fun birthday & I sure hope Peter spoils you today!
Love, Dad

A note from Lindsay

Words can’t express how excited I am for what is about to happen to you and Peter!  I am positive you’ve done an incredible job of reading the right books, choosing a great name (can’t wait to learn it!), researching and registering for all the right things, and preparing a perfect nursery.  But ultimately there truly is no way to prepare your heart for what will happen when that little boy is placed in your arms for the first time!  Moments will quickly turn into days and before you know it he’ll be smiling at you, babbling, crawling, talking, walking, and eventually blowing out his first birthday candle!  You’ll wonder where the last year of your life went; and you’ll look back at this time -right now- in the weeks leading up to his birth and smile at how absolutely unprepared you were to love a little person SO much!

You and I both know the world of girls having grown up with sisters, but you will quickly fall head over heels for the world of boys.  The idea that any toy can be turned into a truck is amazing.  Loud, fast, and messy will take on whole new meanings when your little guy hits the toddler years.  And your heart will melt a thousand times over when he spontaneously wraps his little arms around your neck and tells you he loves you.

I have loved preparing for my second baby boy along with you while you're preparing for your first.  I will love it even more when they are both in our arms and we are exchanging middle-of-the-night text messages and naptime phone calls.  I love you, Heath!  I can’t wait to see the joy that your son will bring you, and will pray for you and Peter as you take on the task of raising your son to the Glory of God!

A Note From Aunt Karol

Heather, you’re going to be a MOM!  Wow!
I’m sure you are wondering “How does this mom thing work, anyhow?”  I think we have all asked that same question, especially before the first baby, and I’m not sure if you ever get a real answer.  I do know God has equipped you to be the very best mom that this precious little boy will ever have, and HE will continue to equip you in every situation– sleepless nights, lost pacifier, messy diapers, smiles and giggles, amazing baby noises, tiny diapers, spit up (and the list goes on!) – because God has chosen you and Peter to be this little boy’s parents.  What a gift!  One you will treasure and hold close for the rest of your life!
I am truly looking forward to watching this story unfold.  Some of my very first Aunt memories are of you, which makes sense, I guess, since you are what made me an Aunt for the first time!  I can’t wait for the new memories that we will share with your little one.
I’m going to be a Great Aunt!  Wow!
I love you!
-Aunt Karol

A note from mom...

Heather Lynn May…our precious, first born child delivered 30 years ago, soon to be giving birth to a little baby boy…our precious, first grandchild!   Now, how neat is that?
Heather, I remember those last few weeks before you arrived- I was soooo ready to be rid of the huge basketball belly looming in front of me.  I couldn’t tie my shoes, sleep on my tummy which I loved, put on socks & stockings (yes, a Sunday necessity back then), barely bend to pull up my pants,…you always seemed to be in the way.  :)  Not only was I counting down the days til I’d be back to my same normal size BUT I was also counting the days to see this little girl or boy that had been growing, kicking, hiccupping, & capturing our attention for 9 months.

What’s now hard to believe is that this same little girl is now having the same thoughts about her basketball belly & little boy!  Oh my, where has the time gone?  Your lives are about to take on new norms of daily challenges, joys & blessings but you’re more than ready!  Heather, you will be a fabulous mom & Peter, a wonderful dad.  You can count on our continued prayers & support as you enter this new stage of parenthood.

With lots of love, Mom & Dad

Small Group Shower

Our small group threw us a surprise shower a week ago Thursday (although the neighbor girl spoiled the surprise before we got there! :)  We felt so loved and are so thankful to have made these friends over the last year.  They promise it'll be okay to bring our little guy once he arrives.  I have a feeling there will be many willing arms to hold him while we meet on Thursdays.  :)

I can't thank each of you enough who have gifted me with such wonderful things- whether at various showers in North Carolina or through the mail.  I love you and am so very thankful for you!

Duke Friends Baby Shower

Over the last weekend of April, some of our dear Duke friends through us a baby shower.  Pete and I not only felt overwhelmed by their generosity, but blessed to have such amazing friends.  We had such a great time visiting - it felt like old times.  Wish they all still lived next door.

More from this shower to come...
